Unit Studies

Since many of us will be using unit studies to do our notebooks I will list sites you can find lesson plans.

To search out a topic, once again www.google.com is invaluable. Try the following examples for searching:

"Ancient Egypt + Lesson Plans"

"Ancient Egypt Lesson Plans"

"Ancient Egypt + unit studies"

One of my favorite sites for lesson plans is Core Knowledge. This site is based on the Ed Hirsch What Your Child Needs to Know series. The site has free award-winning lesson plans as well as some that can be ordered. I have found wonderful lesson plans on this site.

Here is a simple step by step guide for putting together a unit study:

  1. Choose a topic.
  2. Determine how detailed you want the study to be.
  3. Determine the amount of time you want to spend on the unit.
  4. Collect your resources.
  5. Check online for additional resources and ideas.
  6. Plan activities that relate to your topic.
  7. Search the library for more resources..
  8. Plan a schedule.
  9. Keep a notebook of your study.
  10. Wrap up your unit with an activity or field trip that pulls it all together.
