Many who have been homeschooling
for a while know that being organized is very important. Following
a routine keeps everyone on track and more is accomplished.
I am pretty well organized but always have room for improvement.
I don't do well with schedules, but I do believe in having
order. You will find lots of ideas for organizing your home
at Organized Home
and Donna Young's
Printables and Resources.
Just as
an organized home keeps family members on track, so does an
organized homeschool. There are many methods for scheduling
our school time and it would be a good idea for you to explore
them all to find the one that would suit your family. I like
the idea of scheduling for a year. We need a road map to know
where we are going. It's good to get a "snapshot"
of what needs to be taught in the coming year. This gives
us time to plan, study and collect the resources that will
be needed. If we will be studying American History next year,
for example, I can spend time researching and locating the
books that should be used.
Once you
have an overview of your course of study and have set goals,
you can begin putting lesson plans together in one month or
six-week periods.
Routines
are great as long as you don't forget to smell the roses!
<G> One of your goals should be to enjoy your homeschooling
process as well as your family. You are making memories, growing
future adults and you want your home to be a pleasant place.
